The Caribbean MOU (Memorandum of Understanding), a regional organization promoting cooperation among coastal states of the Caribbean Sea in maritime safety, selected Shared System to implement its new Port State Control system called CMIS (Caribbean Maritime Information System).

CMIS primarily manages inspections of foreign vessels in national ports to verify whether ship conditions and equipment comply with international regulations.

This new system offers various features that significantly assist officers in their duties. Beyond streamlined vessel, inspection and coding management, it includes a CIC reporting module and the capability to record data for vessels under 500 GT without IMO numbers. With these major enhancements, the CMOU has taken steps toward complete autonomy in its information systems.
The system also enables data exchange with IMO’s GISIS and Equasis systems while generating real-time statistical reports with multiple filtering criteria.
